Prom season is coming. And if you want to show up in something that makes the entire parking lot stop and stare, a Corvette is the move.
Renting a Corvette for prom or graduation isn't as complicated as you might think. But there are some things you need to know before you book, especially around age requirements and deposits. This guide covers all of it.
The Age Problem (and How to Solve It)
Here's the biggest hurdle. Most exotic car rental companies require drivers to be at least 21 years old. Some push it to 25. That's a problem when you're 17 or 18.
You have three options:
- Have a parent or older sibling rent the car. This is the most common workaround. The person on the rental agreement drives you to the venue, or you drive with them as the named authorized driver (some companies allow drivers 18+ as secondary drivers with a fee).
- Book a chauffeur service. Several rental companies in cities like Miami, Atlanta, and Los Angeles offer chauffeur packages specifically for prom. You get the Corvette experience without needing to be behind the wheel. Typical cost is $150-$300 on top of the rental.
- Use Turo with a qualifying driver. Turo allows rentals at age 18+ (with a young driver fee). If you're 18 and have a clean driving record, this might be your best path to actually driving the car yourself.
What It Costs
A Corvette rental for prom or graduation is usually a one-day affair. Here's what you're looking at:
C8 Corvette Stingray (the one everyone wants)
- One day: $300-$500
- Security deposit: $1,000-$2,500 (refundable)
- Young driver surcharge (if applicable): $50-$100/day
C7 Corvette Stingray (still turns heads, easier on the wallet)
- One day: $175-$325
- Security deposit: $500-$1,500 (refundable)
Chauffeur add-on: $150-$300 for 3-4 hours
So your all-in cost for one night in a C8, with a parent as the renter, is somewhere between $300 and $500 plus the refundable deposit. Split that between a few friends and it's less than a nice dinner.
Worth it.
Best Models for Prom Night
The C8 Stingray convertible is the obvious pick. That retractable hardtop drops in 16 seconds, the car looks like it costs twice what it actually does, and the Rapid Blue or Red Mist colors photograph like a dream.
But don't sleep on the C8 coupe. The removable roof panel gives you an open-air feel without the convertible premium, and the roofline looks more aggressive in photos.
If budget matters (and for most high schoolers, it does), a C7 Stingray in Arctic White or Torch Red still looks incredible in photos. Nobody at your prom is going to say "oh, that's only a C7." They're going to say "whose Corvette is that."
Booking Tips for Prom Season
Prom season runs April through June. Rental demand spikes hard during this window, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Book early.
- Book 3-4 weeks out minimum. Popular colors and convertibles go first.
- Friday pickup, Saturday return gets you the best rate for a Saturday prom. Most companies charge for 24-hour periods, not calendar days.
- Ask about mileage limits. You probably won't drive more than 50 miles round trip, but check anyway. Most rentals include 100-150 miles per day. Going over can cost $1-$3 per mile.
- Get the insurance. Your parents' auto insurance might cover rental cars, but exotic cars are often excluded. The rental company's coverage (typically $30-$50/day) is worth the peace of mind on a night when you want zero stress.
- Request a specific color when you book. Match it to your outfit if you want the photos to go hard. Rental companies will try to accommodate color requests made in advance.
The Photo Strategy
You're renting this car partly for the photos. Plan them.
Show up 30-45 minutes before your group is supposed to leave. Park somewhere with good light and a clean background. Your house driveway works, but a park, a downtown street, or an empty parking structure looks better.
Golden hour (the hour before sunset) is your best friend. And the Corvette's low profile means you want to shoot at ground level or slightly below. Not from above.
Get the standard shots (standing by the car, sitting in the car, group around the car), but also get a few candid ones. Walking toward the car, keys in hand. Looking back over your shoulder. The "about to pull away" shot.
These are the ones that actually get posted.
Cities with the Best Prom Rental Options
Not every city has a huge selection of Corvettes available for single-night rentals. These do:
- Miami has the most exotic car rental companies per capita in the country. Tons of C8s available, many with chauffeur options.
- Los Angeles is a close second. Multiple Turo hosts and rental companies offer prom packages.
- Atlanta has a growing exotic rental scene, with companies like Milani offering specific prom and graduation packages.
- Las Vegas and Dallas both have solid options, though Vegas leans more toward tourist rentals than event-specific bookings.
- Houston and Charlotte round out the list with several local exotic rental shops that cater to prom season.
Graduation Day
Prom gets all the attention, but graduation day is just as good a reason to rent a Corvette. You (or your parents) worked hard for years to get to this moment. Pulling up to the ceremony in a C8 is a flex you've earned.
And unlike prom, graduation is usually during the day. Better light for photos, less traffic, and you can actually enjoy driving the car around town afterward instead of just parking it at a venue.
Some families rent the Corvette for the full day and take the graduate out for a celebration drive after the ceremony. That's the way to do it.
